Tiankai Yu, born in 1999 in Jiangxi, China, commenced his musical journey at the age of four, delving into piano studies in his hometown. At 15, he ventured to Germany to pursue his passion further. Under the guidance of Prof. Andreas Immer at the Music University of Freiburg from 2015, Yu laid the foundation for his future musical endeavors.

In 2016, he successfully passed the entrance examination at the Music University of Freiburg, completing his Bachelor’s degree under the tutelage of Mr. Tilman Krämer. Transitioning to the Zurich University of the Arts in 2020, he pursued his Master’s studies in the esteemed class of Prof. Till Fellner. Continuing his musical odyssey, Yu moved to the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar in 2022 for his concert examination under the mentorship of Prof. Michail Lifits.

Yu’s quest for musical excellence led him to attend masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Mr. Piotr Paleczny and Mr. Boris Vsevolodovic Petrushansky. His accolades include winning the 1st prize at the Federal Competition “Jugend musiziert” with his piano trio in 2016, securing 2nd place at the 9th International Rosario-Marciano Piano Competition in Vienna in 2017, and claiming 1st place at the 12th International Piano Competition in Essen in the same year. He has also showcased his talent at prestigious international piano competitions including Busoni, Santander, and Geza Anda.
