How to Apply

We encourage applicants to begin preparing materials well in advance of the application deadline. This section outlines each stage of the application process, together with guidance on recordings, repertoire submission and supporting documents.

Before You Apply Please ensure that you have reviewed the following information before beginning your application:

Eligibility requirements

Applications from individuals who do not meet the age eligibility requirements will not be admitted to the Competition process and may forfeit the application fee.

Key dates

Applicants must be available for all Competition dates, including the International First Round and all Leeds rounds.

Identification

Applicants must hold a valid passport and provide nationality and identification details as part of the application process.

References

The Leeds International Piano Competition is designed as a platform for emerging international artists. Applicants must provide the contact details of two referees who can support their readiness to participate in the Competition, such as their current or most recent teacher.

Language requirements

Applicants are asked to submit all application materials in English where possible, with the exception of composer names and work titles, which may be given in their original language.

After You Apply

Pre-Selection recordings are reviewed through an international screening process designed to ensure fairness and consistency.

  • Applicants will receive an automated confirmation email immediately upon submission of their application.
  • Applications cannot be accepted after the published deadline.
  • The Pre-Selection process is undertaken anonymously. The panel will assess recordings and submitted repertoire without access to applicants’ personal details.
  • We aim to notify all applicants of the Pre-Selection outcome in December 2026.
  • Due to the volume of applications received, individual feedback cannot be provided.
  • Successful applicants will receive detailed information regarding participation in the International First Round.
  • Public announcements of selected competitors will be made in accordance with the published Competition timeline.
