Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky arr Yevgeny Sudbin Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture
Described by The Independent as ‘a pianist of uncommon sensitivity and refinement’, Yevgeny Sudbin follows the long tradition of producing piano transcriptions of symphonic works. This evening he presents his own transcriptions of two pieces: Fantasy & Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s dramatic and emotional Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture. Sudbin is a celebrated interpreter of Alexander Scriabin, another giant of the Russian repertoire. Scriabin’s tenth, and final, piano sonata is sometimes referred to as his ‘insect’ sonata and is characterised by frequent trills and tremolos.
This concert is part of the Leeds International Piano Series, presented in partnership with the Leeds International Piano Competition.
