World Piano Day is celebrated on the 88th (for the 88 keys on a piano) day of the year which in 2022 is March 29th. Here at Leeds Piano, it’s our favourite day of the year as we celebrate all things Piano and look back on our favourite memories over the past year. Take a look below to see our favourite moments and events happening across the UK today!
Federico Colli Encore
In March 2022 we welcome 2012 Winner, Federico Colli to close our Leeds International Piano Series, in partnership with the Leeds International Concert Series. The audience enjoyed a delightful programme including Mozart sonatas, Schubert’s F minor Fantasy (in tribute, he says, to Dame Fanny Waterman who adored the work) and Prokofiev’s famous Peter and the Wolf, in a version for solo piano. The evening was then closed with a Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca in a foot-tapping rendition from Federico himself, take a listen to get your feet moving!
Leeds Piano Trail
September 2021 brought our #LeedsPianoTrail to the streets of Leeds in our biggest and most successful festival yet. With 11 Pianos and 10 sculptures (made entirely out of dismantles pianos), we brought music to every corner of Leeds with performances, workshops. The Leeds Piano Trail will return August – September 2024. Before then, a set of transformed pianos will appear in public locations across Leeds for a series of specially curated events . . . and to be played by you!
