Learn To Play Day

Please Note: Lessons are now fully booked

The Leeds International Piano Competition is delighted to invite you to a day of nationwide music making on Sunday 18 March by joining in Learn To Play Day!

Learn To Play Day is an initiative to encourage and enable people across the UK to try out a musical instrument by Music For All.

Music for All are a national charity who believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn to play music, and we are very proud to offer piano playing opportunities in our home city of Leeds. Music shops, venues and music centres will be hosting events to offer the public a chance to have a free ‘taster’ music lessons. Full details of lessons available as well as information about the project can be found here.

We are pleased to be able to offer free, 30 minute piano lessons throughout the day on Sunday 18 March for anyone interested in trying out the instrument for the first time, or as a refresher session. Those new to the piano can expect an introduction to how the instrument works, and will be given the opportunity to learn the introductory techniques required for piano playing. Attendees with prior experience playing the piano can expect a refresher in basic skills, which may include reading music, scales or playing short pieces of music for either hand. You are welcome to bring in pieces from home.

The lessons will be taught by expert tutor, Liam Brigg. Liam is a composer, pianist and teacher and he recently received his BA and MMus from Leeds College of Music (LCoM), where he now works as a piano and music theory teacher. His works have been broadcast by Chapel FM, and been performed at events such as Leeds Lieder Festival and Light Night. He has also written for the New Music Collective at LCoM, Juice Vocal Ensemble and the Peerson Project at Leeds University. Liam is an experienced music teacher, educating adults and children in a variety of group and one-to-one settings. He received a nomination for Teaching Excellence at LCoM in 2017.

As well as attending your lesson you will have a chance to learn about the Competition, enjoy hearing some previous winners and of course relax with tea and biscuits too.

All lessons must be booked in advance by emailing jenny.rogers@leedspiano.com, are completely free and will take place in our office on Woodhouse Lane in Leeds. Get in touch today to secure your place!
