PIANO RECITAL by Mariam Batsashvili
Her technical prowess and ability to negotiate Liszt’s showy grandeur is a given, but her sense of his inner world… sets her apart.

The young Georgian pianist Mariam Batsashvili has made a speciality of the music of Liszt since winning the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht in 2014. She has since appeared worldwide, and as a BBC New Generation Artist extensively across the UK, performing with all the BBC orchestras. Her debut album for Warner Classics of Chopin and Liszt was received to great acclaim, and her programme for her Leeds debut plays to her considerable strengths.
Following the huge success of this new initiative in 2021/22, we once again bring some of the world’s greatest pianists to The Venue, Leeds Conservatoire across the autumn and winter months. They are a truly international group, from Argentina, France, Russia, Kazakhstan, Israel and Georgia, and the repertoire is a very rich mix of great masterpieces, with threads of Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, and Liszt running through the season. Three of the musicians featured are at the forefront of a very exciting younger generation of pianists, including the 2021 competition winner Alim Beisembayev.
We are delighted once again to partner with Leeds International Concert Season and Leeds Conservatoire to bring you what we know will be a veritable treasure trove of fantastic pianism.
