Bach+ Piano Project
Between March and July 2007, Musical ARC collaborated with the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition on Bach+. This project, funded by the Arts Council, involved Benjamin Frith working together with Musical ARC to create a new piece of music which used a keyboard suite by J. S. Bach as inspiration. Four new members joined the Musical ARC for the experience. The results were heard, together with the original Bach suite, in a unique series of concerts. www.musicalarc.com
Pianos Everywhere
To celebrate the 2006 Leeds International Pianoforte Competition, pianos were set up in some unusual locations around the city, and talented members of the public came to play them.
Pianos popped up just about everywhere and pianists turned up and played anything from 'Light my fire' in The Light, to 'Apples and Pears' at Kirkgate Market, 'Come Fly with Me' at the airport and even 'Chopsticks' in Chinatown!
Students from Leeds College of Music and the School of Music, University of Leeds, were also involved with performances at the following locations:
- BBC Building - Quarry Hill Leeds
- Chinatown Shopping Arcade
- Civic Hall, the chamber
- Kirkgate Market
- Leeds Bradford International Airport
- Leeds City train station
- The Light
- Queens Hotel
- Victoria Quarter
- The Wardrobe
A free open-air lunch time concert was held right in Millennium Square featuring renowned pianist Benjamin Frith, winner of many past international piano competitions.
